Effective 9 September 2026 · Applies to Tessera for Android (com.tessera.puzzles)
Tessera is a puzzle app that works with the radio off. It has no account, no sign-in and no sync, and it sends nothing of yours anywhere. The one exception is advertising, and this page says exactly what that involves.
Your puzzles, times and progress
Stays on your device. Never sent anywhere.
Statistics, streaks and monthly awards
Stays on your device. Never sent anywhere.
Your settings, including theme and mistake limit
Stays on your device. Never sent anywhere.
Advertising ID and ad interactions
Collected by Google AdMob and shared with Google. Removed entirely by the Remove Ads purchase.
Approximate location, derived from your IP address
Used by Google AdMob to select ads. Tessera never requests location permission.
Tessera itself makes no network request. Puzzles are generated on your phone, and everything you solve is written to storage only this app can read. The only traffic from this app is Google's advertising SDK, and Google Play while a purchase is being made.
All of the following is stored in private app storage on your phone. It is not uploaded, not backed up to us, and not readable by other apps:
There is no account to create and nothing to log in to, so none of this is associated with a name, an email address or any other identity.
Unless you have purchased Remove Ads, Tessera shows advertisements supplied by Google AdMob. To do that, the AdMob SDK collects and shares with Google:
This is done by Google's SDK, not by code we wrote, and the data goes to Google rather than to us. Google's own policy explains what they do with it: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Tessera shows Google's consent form the first time you open it, and your choice there decides whether ads are personalised. You can change that choice at any time from Settings inside the app.
On any device, you can reset or delete your Advertising ID in Android's own settings, under Settings → Privacy → Ads.
Tessera offers a one-time purchase called Remove Ads. It is not a subscription. Once it is active the app stops requesting advertisements altogether, which means the advertising SDK stops collecting anything at all. Rewarded videos remain available if you choose to watch one for extra hints, and only then.
Purchases are handled entirely by Google Play Billing. Google processes the payment and tells the app only whether the purchase is active. We never see or store your card details, billing address or any other payment information.
The fact that you own Remove Ads is cached on your device so it keeps working offline — if you buy it on a train and go into a tunnel, you have still bought it.
Tessera is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided information through this app, please get in touch and we will act on it.
Because your puzzle data never leaves your device, there is no copy of it for us to send you, correct or delete — you already hold the only one.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or a jurisdiction with similar law, you have rights of access, correction, deletion and objection in respect of personal data. For the advertising data described above, those rights are exercised against Google as the party that collects it; Google's policy, linked earlier, explains how.
If the app starts doing something this page does not describe, this page changes first. The effective date at the top always shows when it was last revised, and material changes will be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.
